Ganderbal, Nov 24: In a significant move aimed at improving healthcare services, the Health Department has ordered the immediate transfer and posting of two doctors to key health institutions in Ganderbal district.
According to the official order, Dr. Asif Mahajin, Medical Officer (ENT), has been transferred from Block Uri to SDH Kangan, fulfilling a long-pending demand of residents for an ENT specialist at the hospital. Similarly, Dr. Shabana Salim, Medical Officer (DNB Gynecology), who was awaiting posting orders, has been assigned to Trauma Hospital Gund.
The order states that both doctors “shall be deemed to have been relieved” from their previous positions and must join their new places of posting immediately. Chief Medical Officers concerned have been directed to submit a joining compliance report within two days.
The development comes after Rising Kashmir highlighted the absence of an ENT specialist at SDH Kangan on August 26, a gap that had been causing inconvenience to thousands of patients from remote and far-flung areas. Locals had expressed concern over the heavy patient load and shortage of essential specialists.
Following the report, MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali assured residents that their genuine demand would be addressed. He raised the issue with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during a recent review meeting in Ganderbal.
With the new appointments now in place, residents of Kangan and Gund have expressed gratitude to MLA Mian Mehar Ali, the Chief Minister, and the Health Department for promptly responding to their concerns and strengthening healthcare facilities in the region.
