Budgam, Nov 12: In the wake of the terrorist attack at the Red Fort, Budgam Police has issued a stern advisory urging citizens to exercise restraint and responsibility while using social media platforms. The police's appeal comes after reports of certain individuals and groups posting or reacting insensitively to the incident, which has led to the spread of misinformation, hate speech, and anti-national content online. The advisory specifically warns all social media users and WhatsApp group administrators to refrain from sharing, posting, or forwarding any content that is anti-national, communal, or sectarian in nature. Police have made it clear that any such actions will invite strict legal action under applicable laws, emphasising the importance of responsible online behaviour. Budgam Police said that social media should be used as a tool to promote peace, unity, and constructive dialogue, rather than hatred or division. Citizens are encouraged to report any content that could threaten public order or social harmony, fostering a responsible digital environment, a police spokesperson said. Similarly, Baramulla Police also issued a separate advisory calling for restraint and responsibility in social media use. They warned against sharing or engaging with content that fosters communal, divisive, or inflammatory narratives. The police warned that strict legal measures will be enforced against those spreading hate, misinformation, or anti-national propaganda online. Baramulla Police cautioned citizens to remain vigilant against social media accounts operated from across the border, which are often aimed at provoking sentiments and disturbing public peace. Both police departments appealed to all residents to act responsibly on social media, contributing to the maintenance of peace, unity, and harmony in their respective districts.
