Baramulla, Dec 14: In a continued drive against drug trafficking, Baramulla Police arrested a drug peddler during naka checking at Trikolbal near the New Bypass in the Pattan area.
A police spokesperson said that a police party of Police Station Pattan, headed by HC Syed Aijaz Ahmad No. 455/B, had established a naka at Trikolbal. During the checking, a person was noticed moving in a suspicious manner and, on noticing the police party, attempted to flee from the spot. However, he was promptly apprehended by the alert police personnel.
Upon questioning, the individual disclosed his identity as Akif Ahmad Dar S/o Ashiq Ahmad Dar R/o Trikolbal Jawanipora, Pattan.
During his personal search, two small packets of contraband substance were recovered from the right pocket of his pheran, including one corn cover–wrapped charas-like substance weighing approximately 13.5 grams and another light green polythene–wrapped charas powder–like substance weighing approximately 23 grams. He was arrested on the spot.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 237/2025 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Pattan, and further investigation is underway.
Baramulla Police has reiterated its firm commitment to eradicate the menace of drug abuse and trafficking and urges the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug-related activities in their areas.
