Tributes paid to G M Mir on 30th death anniversary Srinagar, Dec 13: Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Zaffer Mir (Lasjan) on Friday chaired a significant organisational meeting with party affiliates in the BK Pora belt of Chadoora-Budgam, marking a pivotal step in the party's ongoing outreach drive to strengthen its grassroots presence. The gathering focused on reinforcing internal mobilisation, with newly appointed delegates formally felicitated and entrusted with their respective responsibilities, highlighting PDP's structured approach to empowering local leadership ahead of the forthcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies elections. In a heartfelt interlude during the proceedings, all the participants of the meeting paused to pay floral tributes to the late Ghulam Mohammad Mir (Lasjan), former minister and political stalwart whose visionary developmental agenda left a lasting impact on Budgam district. Renowned for his infrastructural breakthroughs, including the Marvel Lift Irrigation Scheme that revolutionised local agriculture, Mir Lasjan's legacy was celebrated for its enduring benefits. Zaffer recounted how the scheme was approved by the then government through Mir's determined intervention & follow up during the historic Baghat-i-Kanipora session, underscoring his role as a trailblazer who sowed seeds of progress for generations, especially for people of Budgam. Resuming the discussions, participants expressed profound dissatisfaction with the elected government, lambasting its persistent inability to address public concerns or uphold the people's aspirations. Zaffer led the charge, arguing that rather than delivering relief, the current administration has only intensified daily hardships and deepened the chasm between governance and citizens' expectations. The meeting wrapped up with a resounding call for coordinated political engagement and a united front to safeguard democratic spaces in Jammu and Kashmir, reaffirming PDP's commitment as a voice for the region's marginalised communities.
