Ganderbal, Nov 24: In a significant move to enhance healthcare services, the Health Department has ordered the immediate transfer and posting of two doctors to key medical institutions in Ganderbal district.
According to the official order, Dr Asif Mahajin, Medical Officer (ENT), has been transferred from Block Uri to SDH Kangan — fulfilling a long-pending demand of residents for an ENT specialist at the facility. Likewise, Dr Shabana Salim, Medical Officer (DNB Gynaecology), who was awaiting posting, has been assigned to Trauma Hospital Gund.
The order mentions that both doctors “shall be deemed to have been relieved” from their previous positions and must join their new places of posting without delay. The concerned Chief Medical Officers have been instructed to submit a joining compliance report within two days.
The development comes after Rising Kashmir highlighted the absence of an ENT specialist at SDH Kangan on August 26 — a gap that had caused considerable inconvenience to thousands of patients from remote and far-flung areas. Locals had raised concerns over the heavy patient load and shortage of essential specialists.
Following the report, MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali assured residents that their genuine demand would be addressed. He took up the matter with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during a recent review meeting in Ganderbal.
With the new appointments now in place, residents of Kangan and Gund have expressed gratitude to MLA Mian Mehar Ali, the Chief Minister, and the Health department for responding swiftly to their concerns and strengthening healthcare services in the region.
