Dr Farooq, Itoo, Sharma extend Christmas greetings

Srinagar, Dec 24: National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday extended warm greetings to the people on the joyous occasion of Christmas. In his message, Dr Abdullah said that Christmas symbolises peace, compassion, and the spirit of togetherness. He expressed hope that the festival would strengthen bonds of harmony and mutual respect among people of all faiths. The NC chief also wished the Christian community a joyful celebration and hoped that the day brings happiness, good health, and prosperity to all, fostering peace and goodwill across the region. Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo in her message, she said Christmas symbolises love, compassion, sacrifice, and hope—values that are especially relevant today. She emphasised that such occasions remind us to rekindle the spirit of harmony and brotherhood. The minister also highlighted the importance of communal harmony and mutual respect, noting that J&K has a rich tradition of coexistence. She prayed for peace, progress, and prosperity for the entire region of Jammu and Kashmir. Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Transport, Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma, described Christmas as a festival embodying peace, love, compassion, and selfless service. He said the teachings of Lord Jesus Christ inspire humanity to walk the path of truth, humility, and harmony, which are essential for building a just and inclusive society. “Christmas reminds us of the importance of caring for one another and strengthening bonds of brotherhood and mutual respect. The spirit of this sacred festival reinforces our commitment to unity in diversity, which is the hallmark of Jammu and Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage,” Sharma said. The minister highlighted the need to reach out to the underprivileged and ensure that development benefits reach every section of society, especially during festive seasons. He wished the people peace, prosperity, and happiness, praying for continued harmony, progress, and goodwill in Jammu and Kashmir.
