Budgam, Dec 12: In a major enforcement drive, Budgam Police on Friday seized 11 vehicles across the district for violating provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The action comes amid a noticeable rise in vehicles being brought from other states without completing mandatory documentation.
A police official said the seized vehicles had been transported from outside the Union Territory but had not undergone the required legal transfer of ownership to their current users—an issue that has become a growing concern across Jammu & Kashmir.
“This lapse is not only a violation of the Motor Vehicles Act but also a matter of significant security relevance,” the official said, adding that strict legal action is also being taken against persons involved in triple riding, riding without helmets, and rash driving.
According to police, unregistered or illegally transferred vehicles are susceptible to misuse in criminal or anti-national activities, including smuggling, theft, or the transportation of unauthorized goods, posing a serious threat to public safety and national security.
Budgam Police have urged all vehicle owners and users to ensure full compliance with legal requirements, including timely transfer of ownership, to avoid seizure, penalties, and other legal consequence
