Budgam, Jan 29: The Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Budgam, has issued a public notice directing all vehicle owners whose vehicles do not possess a valid Fitness Certificate to regularise their documents within a stipulated period of 15 days from the date of issuance of the notice. According to the ARTO, the directive applies to all categories of vehicles operating in the district that are required under the Motor Vehicles Act to maintain a valid fitness certificate. Vehicle owners who have failed to obtain or renew the mandatory fitness certification up to date have been advised to immediately approach the concerned authorities and complete the required formalities within the given timeframe. The ARTO said that the fitness certificate is a crucial legal requirement to ensure that vehicles are roadworthy, environmentally compliant, and safe for public use. Operating a vehicle without a valid fitness certificate not only violates statutory provisions but also poses a serious risk to road safety. The notice further warns that strict action will be taken against defaulters after the expiry of the 15-day period. “In case any vehicle owner fails to obtain the fitness of their vehicle within the stipulated time, such vehicles shall be seized, and appropriate action under the Motor Vehicles Act and the rules framed thereunder will be initiated,” the ARTO said. The ARTO said that the move is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to enforce motor vehicle laws, improve road safety standards, and curb the operation of unfit vehicles within the district.
