Srinagar, Apr 20: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday promised that her party will “get everything back that was snatched” from people from Jammu and Kashmir after August 2019.
“We need to regain what was lost on August 5, 2019. Everyone should stay vigilant and united, stating that history shows change is possible even in tough times,” she said.
Mufti said this election is not just about development but about protecting what is important for Jammu and Kashmir. She urged people to “come together, forget political differences, and focus on what matters the most”.
“PDP is the defender of truth and the people’s interests in Kashmir’s politics, she added.
During her speech, the former chief minister highlighted the “multifaceted challenges” the people of Jammu and Kashmir are facing, ranging from “economic burdens to social injustices”.
“The current scenario in Jammu and Kashmir reflects a systematic assault on our rights and resources. From skyrocketing electricity bills to the denial of employment opportunities for educated youth, our people are bearing the brunt of these injustices,” she said.
Mehbooba said, “Lands are being taken away from us, our resources and our jobs are being bartered to outsiders. Our people are being turned into bonded labourers with no identity and no say.”
Drawing parallels to past struggles overcome by Jammu and Kashmir, she invoked the repeal of POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act) and the restoration of hope during the PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s tenure as chief minister.
She pledged to “reverse the losses” incurred on August 5, 2019, promising a “resurgence” of rights and dignity for the people of Kashmir.
“We believe people are being stripped of rights, and it is time to raise our voice in Parliament. Our manifesto revolves around the same issues. The state subject laws were changed, leading to the looting of resources, including electricity and lithium, which are being given to outsiders,” she alleged.
