Article 370 was opposed by Dr. Ambedkar for unity of nation: Amit Shah

New Delhi, Apr 14 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said Dr. B.R. Ambedkar had "staunchly opposed" Article 370 of the Constitution, asserting that the principal architect of the Indian Constitution prioritised the country's integrity over special provisions for Jammu and Kashmir.

On the occasion of Ambedkar's birth anniversary, Shah said the visionary leader gave the nation a Constitution that ensures equal rights and opportunities for every citizen.

"He staunchly opposed Article 370 for the sake of the country's integrity," Shah said in a Hindi post on the microblogging platform.

Shah further said Ambedkar's life teaches that obstacles become small when the resolve is for national service and public welfare. "Babasaheb, who gave the mantra to the society to become educated and stay organised, teaches us through his life that when the resolve is for national service and the welfare of people, every obstacle becomes small," he added.

The Union Minister also extended greetings on the foundation day of the Khalsa Panth and the festival of Baisakhi, besides wishing people of Tamil Nadu and Odisha on their respective new year celebrations. (KNS)
