Home Minister to pay obeisance to holy relics of Gautama Buddha

Leh, Apr 30: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Leh on a two-day visit ahead of the sacred festival of Buddha Purnima.

Shah received a grand and enthusiastic welcome at the Leh Technical Airport from Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena, Member of Parliament from Ladakh, BJP leadership, party workers, and other senior dignitaries.

A large number of supporters and locals gathered at the airport to greet the Home Minister, many dressed in traditional attire reflecting the region's rich cultural heritage. People of Zanskar also welcomed Shah with traditional dance and song.

During his visit, the Home Minister is scheduled to pay obeisance to the Holy Relics of Gautama Buddha on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, underscoring both spiritual reverence and administrative outreach in the Union Territory.

According to the official programme, on May 1, Shah will attend the exposition of the Holy Relics and a cultural event at Jive-Tsal, Photang, Choglamsar, Leh at 9:30 AM. Later at 11:15 AM, he will lay the foundation stone of a 10 TLPD (Tonnes per Litre per Day) capacity dairy plant in Kargil and participate in other dairy development initiatives at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies in Leh.

LG Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena posted on X: "It was an honour and a pleasure to welcome Hon'ble Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation, Shri @amitshah ji, upon his arrival in Leh, for a two-day visit. People from all walks of life, dressed up in traditional attire, queued up outside the Airport to accord a heartfelt welcome to the Home Minister. He will be paying respects to the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha, tomorrow on the occasion of the 2569th Buddha Purnima. Hon'ble HM's visit and his vision for the development of Ladakh shall motivate us to work for fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Ladakh."

The visit is seen as significant for both cultural and administrative developments in Ladakh, reflecting the Centre's continued focus on the region's growth and infrastructure expansion.
