Leh, Apr 26: In a move aimed at strengthening institutional identity and promoting professionalism, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has approved the official emblem, flag, logo, and other insignia for the Fire and Rescue Service Department, an official said on Sunday.
The approval comes after a proposal from the department seeking a distinct and unified identity aligned with national standards while also reflecting Ladakh’s cultural and geographical uniqueness, a spokesperson from the L-G office stated.
Following detailed review, the Lieutenant Governor cleared the department’s new visual identity, including its emblem, flag, logo, and badges. These elements are intended to create uniformity within the force, boost discipline, and foster a stronger sense of pride and belonging among personnel, the spokesperson added.
Officials said the new design combines national firefighting symbols with local cultural elements. Traditional motifs such as flames, crossed axes, and rescue imagery highlight courage, readiness, and the department’s mission to protect lives and property.
At the same time, the design draws inspiration from Ladakh’s rugged terrain and heritage. Mountain-inspired elements reflect resilience and the ability to operate in tough conditions, while subtle artistic touches from traditional Ladakhi culture showcase the region’s identity.
LG Saxena said the integration of cultural features into the insignia not only enhances pride among personnel but also reinforces the department’s bond with the people. He added that a well-recognized and professional force is key to ensuring efficient emergency response and strengthening public trust.
