Shares grief with bereaved family; recalls personal bond

Srinagar, April 21, 2026: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, today visited Nigeen to offer condolences at the residence of Ghulam Nabi Jeelani on the sad demise of his daughter, Asma Geelani, who passed away in the United States after a period of illness.

Having personal relations with the family, and childhood friendship between children of both families, Mirwaiz expressed profound grief over the loss and described it as  painful for him and his siblings. During his visit, he met the bereaved family members, including her mother and brother Imran Jeelani, and shared in their sorrow.

Paying tributes to late Asma Jeelani Mirwaiz described her as a bright and dynamic architect, whose supportive nature helped many Kashmiri’s in settling abroad. Mirwaiz said that her even though she died young  and her passing is a loss not only to her family but also to society, Asma lived a fulfilling life through her work and benevolent nature . 

He prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and for patience and strength (sabr) for the family to bear this irreparable loss.
