Srinagar, Apr 16: National Conference General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar on Thursday reiterated that public welfare remains the central agenda of the party, stating that the government is making full use of available resources to provide relief to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing party office bearers and workers, Sagar said that the people of Kashmir have faced immense hardships in recent years and are in urgent need of relief.
He alleged that certain political forces had deceived the people and played a role in the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, adding that such parties will not be forgiven by the people.
He asserted that the National Conference remains the only representative party capable of delivering relief to the people, while continuing efforts to restore democratic and constitutional rights.
Highlighting the government’s work since its formation, he said significant progress has been made over the past one and a half years across key sectors, including reforms in education, improvements in electricity supply, and initiatives to ensure access to clean drinking water.
He further said that the administrative machinery has been made more accessible to the public, including the opening of the Secretariat for outreach. On unemployment, he noted that thousands of youth have been supported through loans and assistance to promote self-reliance. He also welcomed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s announcement of providing 25,000 government jobs during the current year.
Referring to the Private University Bill, Sagar described it as a significant initiative, stating that its approval would enable reputed universities to establish campuses in the region, allowing local students to pursue higher education within Jammu and Kashmir.
He urged party functionaries to strengthen the organisation and actively address the grievances and developmental needs of the people.
