Srinagar, Oct 4: In a major crackdown on terror infrastructure, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday attached the property of Sajad Ahmad Sheikh, alias Sajad Gul, head of The Resistance Front (TRF) and alleged mastermind of the Pahalgam terror attack, under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). A police spokesperson said that in a decisive move aimed at dismantling the financial and logistical ecosystem supporting terrorism, Srinagar Police attached a three-storey residential house built over 15 marlas of land at Rose Avenue, HMT locality, on the outskirts of Srinagar city. “The property, valued at approximately Rs 2 crore, stands in the name of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, father of the designated terrorist, as per official revenue records verified by the Tehsildar, Central Shalteng,” he said. The spokesman said though the property is registered in the name of the terrorist’s father, investigations have established that Sajad Gul is an active stakeholder and has been utilising the property for activities linked to terrorism and anti-national propaganda. “The action has been taken in connection with FIR No. 235/2022 registered at Police Station Parimpora under sections 13, 20, 38 of the UAPA and 2/3 of the EIMCO Act,” he said. The spokesman said that proceedings were initiated under Section 25 of the UAPA, which empowers authorities to attach any property used or intended to be used for terror activities. The attachment was executed in the presence of the concerned Executive Magistrate and other officials, police said. He added that Sajad Gul has been actively involved in facilitating terrorism, spreading anti-India propaganda, and inciting disaffection against the government through online and social media platforms. “This attachment forms part of the broader strategy of Srinagar Police to cripple the financial, operational, and logistical networks of terror outfits and their cross-border sponsors,” the spokesman said. Gul, a long-time operative of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and head of its shadow outfit TRF, has been operating from Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and has been identified as the key conspirator behind several high-profile terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had declared him a designated terrorist in April 2022 and announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for information leading to his capture. Officials said Gul is believed to have masterminded the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists, and was also linked to multiple targeted killings between 2020 and 2024 in central and south Kashmir. He has also been accused of orchestrating grenade attacks in Srinagar, the Bijbehara ambush in Anantnag, and the Z-Morh Tunnel attack in Ganderbal.
