JAMMU, Sept 09: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the flood-affected regions of Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days to personally assess the damage caused by the recent spell of unprecedented rainfall across the Union Territory. According to official sources, the Prime Minister will undertake a one-day visit covering affected areas in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions. The visit follows his recent tours of flood-ravaged Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Ashok Koul, BJP General Secretary (Organisation), confirmed, “After visiting Himachal and Punjab, Prime Minister Modi will soon visit various flood-hit areas in Jammu and Kashmir.” During his visit, the Prime Minister is expected to meet with families affected by floods, cloudbursts, and landslides, particularly in hard-hit districts of Jammu region. A high-level central team will accompany the Prime Minister to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the situation on the ground. Sources added that Modi is also likely to conduct an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas to get a first-hand view of the scale of damage. Following the visit and survey, the Government of India is expected to announce a substantial relief package for the Union Territory. Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also visited Jammu to review the situation, and a central team had already carried out a preliminary damage assessment across various affected districts.
