Pays tribute to victims, urges dialogue as the only path to global peace

Srinagar, 21 April: Describing last year’s Pahalgam terror attack as a deep scar on Jammu and Kashmir’s journey towards stability, National Conference president and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said the incident dealt a significant blow to the region’s progress and sense of security.

Remembering those who lost their lives, the NC chief paid heartfelt tributes to the victims, particularly hailing the courage of individuals who stood up against terrorism. “The Pahalgam attack was a major setback to J&K,” he said.

Dr Farooq also used the occasion to stress the urgency of peaceful engagement in resolving conflicts worldwide, expressing hope that continued dialogue—such as the ongoing diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran—would eventually yield positive outcomes. Emphasising that violence only deepens crisis, he maintained that sustained talks and mutual understanding remain the only viable route to lasting peace.

On the domestic front, he expressed his party’s commitment to progressive and inclusive policies, voicing clear support for the Women’s Reservation Bill. He noted that the legislation had already received wide political backing when introduced, underscoring the importance of ensuring greater representation of women in governance.
