Srinagar, Oct 05: The Jammu division of the Northern Railway on Sunday announced the fifth phase of restoring rail traffic, which had been severely affected by record rainfall and flash floods that struck parts of the Jammu region in the last week of August. Officials said the move marks a significant step toward the full normalization of train operations that were disrupted for weeks due to extensive damage to tracks, bridges, embankments, and other railway infrastructure. According to the Northern Railway, twenty-two trains to and from Jammu, Udhampur, and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra will be restored between October 15 and October 22 under the fifth phase of resumption. These include several important long-distance services connecting Jammu with major cities such as New Delhi, Pune, Nanded, Tatanagar, and Sambalpur. “Nearly two dozen trains have already been re-operated over the past 35 days. With this phase, train traffic at Jammu Railway Station has been almost completely normalized,” said Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Jammu Division), Northern Railway. He said the railway authorities had been working continuously to repair and stabilize the affected stretches of track, particularly between Udhampur and Katra, where landslides and heavy waterlogging had disrupted operations in late August. “Following this disaster, we have worked on a war footing to repair damaged tracks, bridges, and other rail infrastructure. We aim to fully restore all rail services as soon as possible, ensuring minimal inconvenience to passengers,” Singhal said. “We urge passengers to check the latest train status before embarking on their journey. They can use the National Train Enquiry System (NTES), the Indian Railways website, or the Rail Madad helpline number 139 for real-time information,” he said. The official added that the restoration work was carried out in multiple phases, prioritizing heavily used passenger and pilgrimage routes first, followed by long-distance express and mail trains. He said that several sections of the Jammu–Pathankot and Jammu–Udhampur lines were reopened after comprehensive safety inspections by engineers and technical teams. In the latest phase, Train No. 12426 (Jammu Tawi–New Delhi) will resume operations from October 16, while Train No. 12752 (Jammu Tawi–Nanded), Train No. 11078 (Jammu Tawi–Pune), Train No. 18102 (Jammu Tawi–Tatanagar), and Train No. 18310 (Jammu Tawi–Sambalpur) will restart between October 17 and 19. Two short-distance trains, Train No. 74909 (Pathankot–Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan) and Train No. 74910 (Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan–Pathankot) — will also be reintroduced from October 15. At the same time, some services will remain short-terminated or short-originated due to ongoing maintenance and safety works on certain stretches. These include Train No. 19028 (Jammu Tawi–Bandra Terminus), which will terminate at Ludhiana, and Train No. 19416 (SMVD Katra–Sabarmati BG), which will terminate at Amritsar. Train No. 20986 (Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan–Kota) will originate from Ludhiana, while Train No. 22942 (Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan–Indore) will start from Jalandhar Cantt, and Train No. 20848 (Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan–Durg) will begin from Ambala Cantt. Officials said the Northern Railway remains focused on ensuring full restoration of all affected routes before the festival rush later this month.
