Jammu, Apr 02 : Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Thursday hit out at party MLA Bashir Ahmed Veeri, calling his emotional outburst in the Assembly over the reservation issue “drama” and accusing him of misleading the public.   The Deputy CM, per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the government had already acted on its commitments and that a sub-committee was set up by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to examine the reservation issue. lIts report was finalised, approved by the Cabinet and sent

to the Lieutenant Governor”.    He said that the report is with the LG and if he (Veeri) was serious, he should have approached the LG instead of indulging in theatrics.    He asserted that the National Conference remains committed to resolving the issue with fairness and every individual has the right to equal opportunity in jobs.   Meanwhile, Veeri stayed away from the Assembly proceedings on Thursday, a day after his remarks in the House.   Ruling party leaders backed the government’s position and downplayed his absence. MLA Hilal

Akbar Lone said the reasons for Veeri’s absence were best known to him. He said Veeri appeared upset but expressed confidence that he would return.   “He is a very good MLA. The matter had already been taken up. He should not have done this. Today he is absent, tomorrow he will be back with us,” Lone said.   Another MLA, Irshad Rasool Kar said Veeri’s move was not right and the leadership should not be doubted when the issue was already under consideration—(KNO)
