Jammu, Apr 2 : The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday informed the Legislative Assembly that no government accommodation is under unauthorised occupation, even as it acknowledged that 372 residential units in Jammu are occupied by Kashmiri migrants and 50 units in Srinagar have been taken over by some persons through the district administration in Pulwama. In a written
reply to National Conference legislator Tanvir Sadiq, the government said eviction process has not been initiated in case of the 372 units occupied by the migrants. However, due process of eviction has been started against those in possession of the 50 units in Srinagar, it added. MLA Sadiq had sought details on whether a large number of government quarters are
under illegal occupation by persons holding non-entitled posts or occupying accommodation beyond their sanctioned scale, besides asking about eviction notices issued, implemented, and pending. The government’s response, signed by the Minister in charge of Estates, stated that there is no government accommodation under unauthorised occupation, clarifying the position on the two sets of residential units cited by the legislator.(KNS)
