Katra/Jammu, Mar 29: PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), with the support of Office of the Development Commissioner (MSME), Ministry of MSME, Government of India, organized a One Day Awareness Programme on Intellectual Property Rights at The White Hotel Katra, Jammu. The event was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Kumar Abhishek, who was the chief guest, while Vinujee Koul from the Ministry of MSME attended as the guest of honour. The program brought together senior officials from the Ministry of MSME, Department of Industries, representatives from Academia including MSMEs, Startups, Innovators and prospective entrepreneurs. DC Reasi highlighted the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and stressed that such events are crucial for enterprises to understand the value of protecting their innovations and products. Citing the recent example of Kolhapuri chappals, he illustrated the growing significance of IPR in safeguarding traditional and local products. He also stressed the
need for continuous handholding and support of Farmers’ Producer Organizations (FPOs) to help them grow and compete effectively, and urged stakeholders to work collaboratively towards this goal. In his welcome address Rakesh Wazir, Chair, PHDCCI Jammu Region Chapter emphasized the critical role of branding, innovation, and intellectual property protection in enhancing the competitiveness of businesses in Jammu & Kashmir. He explained the significance of intellectual property rights using examples like Radisson, Apple and McDonald's, showcasing how effective IP strategies contribute to worldwide success. Vinu Ji Koul, Assistant Director, MSME-DFO Jammu, highlighted various schemes of the Ministry of MSME, including the ZED (Zero Defect Zero Effect) Certification Scheme, PMEGP (Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme), and innovation-related schemes. H. P. Kumar, Former CMD NSIC & Adviser PHDCCI Kumar emphasized that this is the age of entrepreneurship" and urged the MSMES of Katra to actively engage in business ventures. He advised the
audience to avail the full benefits of various schemes from MSME Ministry. He stressed the importance of starting any venture by protecting an idea through IPR filing, which can be expertly mentored and guided by the PHDCCI -IPFC Center in J&K which is being supported by Ministry of MSME, GoI. Shyam Lal Kesar, Chairman of the Hotel & Restaurant Association Katra, & Virender Kesar, Head of PHDCCI Katra, were among the distinguished dignitaries who attended the event. Kanchan Zutshi, Director, PHDCCI, highlighted the role of the PHDCCI Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre (IPFC), which is supported by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, in Jammu & Kashmir. She emphasized that the centre provides continuous handholding support to MSMEs in filing their Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). She further informed that PHDCCI has a panel of experts who guide and assist MSMEs throughout the IPR registration process.
