Srinagar, Oct 06: The Election Commission of India has announced that bypolls for the Nagrota and Budgam assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir will be held on November 11, while votes will be counted on November 14.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar shared the schedule during a press briefing at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. He said that candidates can file their nominations till October 20. Scrutiny of these papers will be done on October 22, and the last date to withdraw names has been fixed as October 24.
Both seats have been lying vacant since October 2024. Nagrota after BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana passed away, and Budgam after Omar Abdullah chose to retain his Ganderbal seat.
Although bypolls were supposed to be conducted by April 2025, the ECI had postponed them earlier due to security and weather concerns.
