Srinagar, Oct 4: Security forces launched a massive search operation in Samba district after a suspected Pakistani drone was sighted hovering over a forward village along the International Border late Friday night, officials said on Saturday.
The drone-like object was seen approaching from the Pakistani side and hovered briefly over Nanga village in the Ramgarh sector, triggering alarm among residents and security agencies, officials added.
Soon after the sighting, police and BSF teams were rushed to the area to conduct a thorough search and verify whether any payload, such as weapons or narcotics had been dropped.
A senior BSF official said the drone-like object was seen coming from across the border and hovered briefly over Nanga village in the Ramgarh sector late Friday night, triggering an alarm in the area.
Locals alerted nearby Border Security Force (BSF) posts after noticing the suspicious object, following which a high alert was sounded in the border belt.
“Soon after receiving information about the drone movement, police and BSF teams were rushed to the area and a search operation was immediately launched,” he said.
The BSF official said that the focus is to ensure that there has been no airdropping of any payload such as weapons, explosives, or narcotics.
Meanwhile, security forces, assisted by sniffer dogs and technical surveillance teams, combed fields, orchards, and residential areas throughout the night.
Additional security personnel have been deployed along the zero line to prevent any infiltration or cross-border smuggling attempt.
Over the past few years, several such recoveries have been made in border districts, including Samba, Kathua, and Jammu.
“Security has been heightened in adjoining villages as a precautionary measure, and night patrolling has been intensified.
“All border outposts remain on high alert to prevent any possible mischief from across the border.”
Officials said coordination among BSF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and intelligence agencies has been strengthened to track cross-border drone activities.
