Srinagar, Sept 27:On the occasion of
World Tourism Day, Lieutenant Governor
Manoj Sinha extended an open invitation to tourists from across India and the world to visit
Jammu and Kashmir, describing the Union Territory as a destination that offers unmatched natural beauty, cultural richness, and heartfelt hospitality.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the LG's office wrote:
"On World Tourism Day, I invite you all to visit J&K. Laced with picturesque landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and unparalleled hospitality, the crown jewel of India is a beloved year-round destination, providing sheer beauty and spiritual experience."
The day was marked by enthusiastic celebrations across the region, with major events held in
Srinagar, Pahalgam, and Gulmarg. These included
cultural performances, adventure sports, and interactive sessions with tourism stakeholders, drawing both domestic and international visitors.
Officials stated that the events highlighted the diversity of Jammu and Kashmir, showcasing everything from natural wonders to the region’s deep-rooted
spiritual heritage.
Tourism continues to be a vital pillar of the Union Territory’s economy, employing thousands across both Jammu and the Valley. In recent years, the government has intensified its efforts to promote the region as a premier travel destination, combining
infrastructure development, security improvements, and targeted marketing.
A day before LG Sinha announced the
reopening of 12 tourist locations that had been closed following the
Pahalgam terror attack. The decision came after a comprehensive security review and has been widely welcomed by stakeholders as a positive development for the industry.
Officials said that events like World Tourism Day, combined with the reopening of previously restricted sites, are expected to boost footfall in the coming months.
"We want to ensure that each visitor takes away memorable experiences from Jammu and Kashmir," said a senior tourism department official.
With renewed focus from the administration, ongoing infrastructure upgrades, and a surge in promotional activities, this year’s World Tourism Day has once again placed Jammu and Kashmir firmly on the global tourism map as a
vibrant, all-season destination.
