Vows to bridge rural-urban divide in J&K at Swachhata Vijayotsav
JAMMU, SEP29:Reiterating the administration’s commitment to bridging the rural-urban divide in Jammu and Kashmir,
Lieutenant GovernorManoj Sinhaon Monday said that the
truest evidence of the Central Government’s dedicationto the Union Territory lies in the
remarkable progress made over the past five to six years.
“Initiatives under education, social welfare, rural and urban development, and healthcare are vital for building a just and inclusive society. We must overcome challenges to realise the vision of a prosperous rural J&K,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He was addressing a large gathering at
‘SwachhataVijayotsav’, organised by the
Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj under the ongoing
‘SewaParv’, in Jammu.
The LG highlighted the critical role of
cleanliness drives in enhancing
public health, ensuring
community well-being, and fostering a spirit of
collective responsibility in rural areas.
He stressed the importance of
community participation in maintaining cleanliness and environmental hygiene, noting that such campaigns are key to building
happier, healthier villages.
“SewaParv should not be seen in isolation. It must become a part of our everyday life. We must work toward a unified national identity that ensures the welfare and prosperity of all,” he added.
The Lieutenant Governor issued firm instructions for launching a
dedicated environmental awareness campaign in rural areas. He also called for a
crackdown on encroachments along water bodies.
“Citizens must come forward and report illegal encroachments on natural resources. Let us unite to protect our environment and rebuild a more secure future,” LG Sinha urged.
During the event, the LG
laid foundation stones for several
GOBARdhan Biogas Plants and
Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTPs)under
Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) at different locations.
He also
interacted with SafaiMitrasand
felicitated Swachhagrahisin recognition of their crucial contribution to sanitation efforts.Additionally, a
documentary on ShriAmarnathJiYatra 2025, showcasing
best sanitation practices, was officially released.
The programme witnessed the presence of several dignitaries and senior officials, including:
Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member of Parliament;
Bharat Bhushan, DDC Chairman, Jammu;
MLAs YudhvirSethi, VikramRandhawa, and
Arvind Gupta; Mohammad Aijaz, Secretary, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj;
Shiv Kumar Sharma, DIG, Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range;
Dr RakeshMinhas, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu;
AnooMalhotra, Director General, Rural Sanitation. Also in attendance were senior government officials, members of civil society, Swachhagrahis, and citizens from across the region.
