DCs to recommend new panels No disruption in studies

Srinagar, Apr 18: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday took control of 58 schools linked to the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and its Falah-e-Aam Trust, officials said, following adverse intelligence inputs and the expiry of the management committees running these institutions.

Officials said the School Education Department acted under notifications issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, which had earlier declared JeI an unlawful association under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. All 58 schools were found to have direct or indirect links with the banned organisation or its affiliated trust.

"The action was necessary to ensure proper oversight and compliance with government norms," an official said.

Deputy Commissioners across concerned districts have been directed to immediately take charge of the schools and oversee their functioning. They will also recommend new management committees after proper verification.

Authorities said the move is aimed at safeguarding students' academic interests, assuring that there will be no disruption in studies. "The focus is on continuity and quality education," officials added.

The administration has deployed teams to all affected schools to monitor day-to-day operations, ensuring that teaching, examinations, and other academic activities continue without interruption. Officials also said the schools will now be aligned with the standards set under the National Education Policy to maintain uniformity in curriculum and governance.
