Jammu to see urban makeover with 60 new projects: LG

Jammu, Sept 29:Reaffirming the administration’s focus on inclusive and sustainable urban development, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday laid the foundation stone for 60 major projectsworth₹699.79 crore under the AMRUT 2.0 initiative during the ‘SewaParv’ celebrations organised by the Housing & Urban Development Department in Jammu. In his address, the Lieutenant Governor praised the department and the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for driving growth with improved civic infrastructure and services. He described Jammu’s development trajectory as a “bold roadmap for future cities.” “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, my mission is to ensure that no one is left behind. We are committed to reaching the most marginalised sections and integrating them into the development process for collective progress and prosperity,” said LG Sinha. Calling for the integration of smart technology and sustainable infrastructure, the LG underlined the need to build livable, resilient, and environmentally conscious cities. He highlighted the Tawi Riverfront project as a model example, noting how it acted as a natural safeguard during recent heavy rains, protecting the city and nearby areas from flooding. “Tawi Riverfront is a testament to how sustainability and development can go hand in hand. We must adopt eco-friendly practices and strictly enforce environmental regulations to strengthen our urban ecosystem,” he added. The Lieutenant Governor directed the Housing & Urban Development Department to replicate successful models like the Swachhata Internship Programme and Green Colony initiative, currently being implemented by JMC, in other cities across Jammu and Kashmir. He also called on citizens and officials to develop a sense of ownership toward their cities, encouraging active participation in maintaining urban spaces and assets. “Greater citizen involvement is key to ensuring the success of smart urban governance,” LG Sinha noted. On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor felicitated students for best models under the Swachhata Internship, and Swachhagrahis for their outstanding service during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. Sanction letters were also distributed to beneficiaries under various housing and urban development schemes. The event was attended byJugal Kishore Sharma and Er. Gulam Ali Khatana, Members of Parliament; Bharat Bhushan, DDC Chairman Jammu; legislators Yudhvir Sethi, Vikram Randhawa, Arvind Gupta, and Surinder Bhagat; AtalDulloo, Chief Secretary; Mandeep Kaur, Commissioner Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department; Brij Mohan Sharma, Principal Secretary Culture; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; BhimSen Tuti, IGP Jammu; Dr. Rakesh Minhas, Deputy Commissioner Jammu;Dr. Devansh Yadav, Municipal Commissioner Jammu; senior government officials, NGO members, and large numbers of citizens.
