Srinagar, Sep 30:The Gulmarg Gondola, one of Kashmir’s premier attractions, has resumed operations after a week-long safety inspection.
The inspection was conducted by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Poma France, in coordination with the technical team from the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation.
Officials confirmed the inspection began last week and covered both Phase I and Phase II of the Gondola. The French team completed the checks on Tuesday, after which the service was reopened to tourists. This annual inspection is a mandatory exercise to ensure the safety and smooth functioning of the ropeway system.
Meanwhile, the inspection of the Kangdoori Chair Lift (KCL) is currently underway. Officials said the checks on the chairlift are expected to conclude by Sunday, after which the chairlift service will be reopened to visitors.
Managing Director of the Cable Car Corporation, Syed QamarSajad, stated that Gulmarg has witnessed a healthy influx of tourists in recent weeks. He emphasized that annual inspections by the OEM help build visitor confidence by addressing safety concerns directly. “The Gondola has now resumed after successfully passing all safety checks. The chairlift’s joy ride will also resume once the ongoing inspection is complete,” said Sajad.

The Gulmarg Gondola is one of the highest and longest cable car projects in Asia. It connects the popular ski resort with Apharwat Peak, offering panoramic views and adventure activities. The resumption of services ahead of the autumn tourism season is expected to give a boost to the local economy, as both domestic and international tourists continue to visit the region.
Officials said the cooperation between the French experts and the local technical team has ensured timely completion of inspections without disrupting the tourist flow for long.
