‘Footfall crosses 30 lakh in decade’

Srinagar, Apr 16: Asia's largest tulip garden, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, has recorded a footfall of over 30 lakh visitors including locals, domestic tourists, and foreign visitors over the past decade.

According to figures accessed by Rising Kashmir, the data shows a growth of over 150 percent increase in footfall at the Tulip Garden over the last five years. Since 2017, a total of 30.67 lakh tourists have visited the garden, except for 2020 when the garden remained closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The figures reveal that 1.75 lakh visitors visited the garden in 2017, while 1.48 lakh visited in 2018. In 2019, arrivals gained further pace with a total of 1.57 lakh visitors. The garden remained closed in 2020.

From 2021 onwards, the Tulip Garden witnessed a massive surge in footfall. The data shows 1.94 lakh visitors in 2021, 3.60 lakh in 2022, 3.77 lakh in 2023, and 4.46 lakh in 2024.

According to details shared by officials of the Floriculture Department, Kashmir, the highest-ever footfall was recorded in 2025, with a whopping 8.55 lakh people visiting the garden. In 2026, a total of 3.89 lakh people visited the garden during the season.

The garden for the 2026 season was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on March 16, featuring a total of 18 lakh tulip bulbs. The garden was closed for the general public on April 16, 2026.
