Div Com, IGP Jammu oversee preparedness for Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2026

Jammu, April 28: Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar and Inspector General of Police (Jammu) Bhim Sen Tuti today  reviewed the preparations for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 in a high-level meeting held in Jammu.

The meeting was attended by senior officers from CRPF, BSF, Traffic Police, district administrations of Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Reasi and Ramban, along with heads of several departments including transport, tourism, health, sanitation, power, public works, food and civil supplies, and communication agencies.

Officials informed the meeting about arrangements for pilgrim registration, RFID-based tracking, and e-KYC facilities at key locations including Lakhanpur, Bhagwati Nagar and other lodgment centres. It was also informed that token centres for on-the-spot and “tatkal” registration will be set up at the Tawi River Front to reduce congestion near the railway station and improve crowd management.

The Divisional Commissioner directed departments to ensure proper arrangements for drinking water, sanitation and langar (community kitchens) at all registration and token centres.

Reviewing the Bhagwati Nagar base camp, he instructed all departments to complete ongoing repair, renovation and facelift works on time. Officials said that tenders have already been floated for the improvement of camp facilities. The Divisional Commissioner set June 10, 2026 as the deadline for completion of all works, including whitewashing, stall setup, cloakrooms, accommodation, lighting, and washroom facilities.

He also directed the establishment of a cooperative store, prepaid SIM facilities, and installation of temporary shelters for pilgrims. Fire and Emergency Services were asked to conduct a full safety audit, while PWD was directed to complete road blacktopping in and around the base camp. Power authorities were instructed to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply with backup generators and proper street lighting.

Security arrangements were also reviewed in detail. The Inspector General of Police stressed adequate deployment of security forces, proper illumination at all lodgement centres, and strict adherence to yatra timings.

District administrations of Kathua, Samba, Udhampur and Ramban were asked to ensure availability of basic facilities such as water, electricity, CCTV surveillance, and sanitation at lodgement centres along the yatra route.

Transport authorities were directed to prevent overcharging by transport operators, while the J&K Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) was asked to arrange buses for pilgrims’ local sightseeing in Jammu. The Food and Civil Supplies Department was instructed to ensure adequate availability of LPG and essential commodities for langars, and food safety officials were asked to inspect langar sites regularly.

The Divisional Commissioner also directed all departments to appoint nodal officers who will remain present at the control room to be established at Bhagwati Nagar for smooth coordination during the yatra period.
