Inspects NH-44 restoration, visits flood-hit families
Infrastructure to be rebuilt, health outreach intensified
Directs speedy restoration of damaged roads & bridges
Jammu, Sept 9: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited flood-affected districts of Jammu, Samba and Udhampur on Tuesday to oversee ongoing restoration efforts and assess healthcare outreach for families impacted by the recent natural calamities.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the mega health camp for flood affected families, organised by the Health Department, at Rajeev Colony Jammu.
The Lieutenant Governor interacted with the affected familiesand assured the families that the Government of India and J&K administration is committed to the wellbeing of the people affected due to recent natural calamities in the UT.
During his visit to
Keso Manhasan in Samba, the Lieutenant Governor inspected a health camp organised by the Health Department in collaboration with
AIIMS Jammu. He interacted with residents availing medical checkups and assured them of the government’s unwavering support.
“We are resolved to supporting the people of Jammu and Kashmir through this difficult time. The Government of India and the UT administration are fully committed to not only restoring damaged infrastructure but also ensuring complete rehabilitation of affected families,” said LG Sinha.
The LG lauded the swift response of the
Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the
district administration, whose coordinated efforts helped avert a larger crisis during the floods.
He also expressed concern for the
farming community, one of the worst-hit segments during the calamity. "I urge farmers across the Jammu region to utilise schemes like the
PM Fasal Bima Yojana and the
Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) to safeguard their livelihoods," the LG added.
Acknowledging the recent visit of Union Home Minister
Amit Shah, LG Sinha said health camps in every panchayat were being facilitated as per his directive. “AIIMS Jammu will organise nine more mega health camps, while similar efforts are being undertaken by the Health Department, Army, BSF, CRPF, and CAPFs,” he announced, urging residents to benefit from these services.
At
Devak Bridge near AIIMS Vijaypur, which suffered damage due to rising water levels, the LG directed officials to
expedite restoration work and ensure safe connectivity for locals.
Later in the day, the Lieutenant Governor visited
Thard village in Udhampur district, where he inspected
restoration works on National Highway-44, a vital transport artery disrupted by the floods. Officials from the
National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) briefed him on the deployment of men and machinery, confirming that
one lane would be opened to traffic soon.
In Udhampur, the LG also visited another health camp organised at the
Gujjar-Bakerwal Hostel in Jakhani, where he interacted with affected families and reviewed medical facilities being provided.
The visits underline the administration’s
multi-pronged approach, combining infrastructure rebuilding, health outreach, and agricultural support, to help the region recover from one of the most severe flood events in recent memory.
The Lieutenant Governor was accompanied by senior public representatives and top administrative officials in both districts, including
Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu;
Dr. Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director AIIMS Jammu;
Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary, Health & Medical Education;
Bhim Sen Tuti, IGP Jammu, and the respective
Deputy Commissioners and SSPs of Samba and Udhampur.
