“We must speed up welfare delivery,” says CM Omar Abdullah in Budget review meeting

Srinagar , May 7 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday chaired a review meeting at the Civil Secretariat to assess the progress of Budget announcements for 2026–27 and directed departments to speed up the implementation of welfare measures across Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of timely execution of Budget commitments, better coordination between departments, and strict adherence to deadlines so that public benefits reach people without delay.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Ministers Sakina Itoo, Javed Rana, Javid Dar and Satish Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, senior officials from the Finance Department, and administrative secretaries of various departments.

At the beginning of the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) Shailendra Kumar briefed the Chief Minister on the status of Budget announcements and shared progress reports from different departments.

Officials from key departments, including Revenue, Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, Tourism, Forest, Labour and Employment, Higher Education, Rural Development, Youth Services and Sports, Transport, Tribal Affairs, Disaster Management, Skill Development, Science and Technology, and Cooperatives, also presented updates on their work.

During the review, the Chief Minister instructed departments to speed up project execution and ensure transparency and efficiency in all development and welfare initiatives.

He said that Budget promises must be turned into real results on the ground and stressed that all work should be completed in a time-bound manner.

Omar Abdullah also announced that another review meeting will be held in June to further monitor progress on Budget implementation.
