Gathering inputs on foreign role in drug trafficking: Superintendent
Srinagar, May 02: Amid the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has widened its net against drug traffickers, with the nodal agency focusing on dismantling major networks in the region, an official said.
Speaking exclusively to Rising Kashmir, Superintendent of NCB Srinagar, Lav Kumar Singh, said the agency is working on multiple fronts to achieve the goal of a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
"With the 100-day campaign underway, we have intensified our efforts to reach out for inputs and go after the big fish and other drug networks to get rid of the menace. As a nodal agency, we need to handle the big cases, and for that, efforts have been intensified," Singh said.
He added that, as part of the ongoing campaign, the NCB is working on multiple programmes, including training police to deal with drug cases, raising awareness among the masses, and sensitising them to substance abuse.
"We are presently gathering inputs and working on them to reach the traffickers," he said, adding that they have also received inputs about the role of people from outside India, and efforts are being made to reach conclusions in this regard as well.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched the 100-day campaign against the drug menace on April 11 in Jammu and vowed to take strict action against those involved in the nuisance.
The NCB Srinagar Zonal Unit is a specialised unit established by the Government of India to combat drug trafficking and narco-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
