Srinagar, Jan 08: Security forces on Thursday recovered an unexploded shell from the upper reaches of Garkote village in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and later disposed of it safely, officials said. An official said the shell is suspected to be a leftover from Operation Sindoor, which took place in May last year. A police official in Uri told Rising Kashmir that upon receiving credible input, a joint team comprising personnel from the Army’s 12 Grenadiers unit and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of District Police Lines (DPL) Baramulla rushed to the spot. “No damage or injury was reported during the operation,” he said, adding that the situation was handled smoothly and there was no cause for concern. “The unexploded shell was safely disposed of in accordance with standard operating procedures,” the official added. In May last year, security forces had disposed of several unexploded shells in Uri following cross-border shelling, after which residents were allowed to return to their homes.
