Training on natural farming concludes at KVK Kupwara

Kupwara, Jan 19: The five day training programme (Rabi season) on Natural Farming under the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) commenced on January 16, 2026, and on Monday marked the fourth day of the programme, which was successfully conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kupwara.
According to a statement issued here, the training programme is being organised by KVK Kupwara, Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir, in collaboration with ICAR, with the objective of empowering Krishi Sakhis by enhancing their knowledge and skills in eco-friendly, chemical-free farming practices aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture and reducing input costs for farmers.
Under the dynamic leadership of Dr. G.M. Bhat, Head, KVK Kupwara, and with expert guidance from Professor Shahid Ahmed Hakeem, Scientist In-charge, the day featured intensive interactive sessions, practical demonstrations, and discussions focused on key aspects of natural farming techniques suitable for the region's Rabi crops. The sessions emphasized locally adapted methods, including preparation and use of natural inputs, soil health management without chemicals, crop diversification, and integration of livestock in farming systems.
A total of 30 enthusiastic Krishi Sakhis participated actively in the day's proceedings. They shared their field experiences, raised queries on region-specific challenges, and gained hands-on insights through demonstrations. The participants expressed high appreciation for the practical orientation and the supportive environment provided by the resource persons.
Dr. G.M. Bhat highlighted the significance of such capacity building initiatives in aligning with national goals of promoting natural farming for safe, nutritious food production and farmer empowerment. He reiterated KVK Kupwara's commitment to continuing extension support for Krishi Sakhis to implement these practices effectively in their villages.
Professor Shahid Ahmed Hakeem complemented the training by providing scientific inputs on soil fertility enhancement through natural means and stressed the role of Krishi Sakhis as para extension workers in disseminating knowledge to fellow farmers.
Dr. G.M. Bhat, Head, KVK Kupwara, expressed profound gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Kashmir, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, for his visionary leadership, unwavering support, and constant encouragement in advancing farmer centric programmes like NMNF, which are transforming agricultural practices across the region. Special thanks were also extended to Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Director Extension, SKUAST Kashmir, whose guidance and strategic direction have been instrumental in successfully organizing and executing such impactful extension activities at the grassroots level.
