Plan: curbing supply, reducing demand, scientific treatment for addicts
Srinagar, Apr 13: The district administration Srinagar on Monday rolled out an aggressive three-month crackdown on drug abuse, under the 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan (NMJKA), issuing a stern warning of strict enforcement measures. These include property seizures, license revocation and intensified policing to dismantle drug supply networks and fast-track the district’s march towards a drug-free future.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo kick-started the campaign against the drug menace in the district. The mega flag-off-cum-awareness programme was launched at Amar Singh College here.
Speaking on the sidelines of the function, the DC said the programme has been launched on the directions of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who initiated the 100-day campaign from Jammu on April 11.
"The district administration has formulated a comprehensive three-month plan focusing on curbing the supply of drugs, reducing demand and ensuring scientific treatment for addicts, to make the district drug-free," Labroo said, adding that strict action will be taken against those involved in smuggling and trafficking.
He said that in the next three months, those supplying drugs will face stringent action under the supervision of the SSP. “Their licenses will be revoked, properties attached, and enforcement will be intensified to break the supply chain,” he said.
The administration will also focus on awareness among students to curb drug demand, the DC said, adding that youngsters will be sensitised about the harmful effects of drugs and the consequences for their families.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that those battling addiction will be provided scientific treatment. "The Tele-MANAS helpline will be utilised to reach out to those in need," he said.
“We must work together to achieve credible results in the next three months and move towards making Srinagar and Jammu & Kashmir drug-free,” he added.
