Tangmarg, Apr 21 : Authorities have deployed heavy security in the tourist hubs of Gulmarg, Tangmarg and Drung ahead of the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 27 lives, including 26 non-local tourists, officials said.
Security forces have intensified vigilance across the tourist belt, setting up multiple checkpoints and carrying out extensive vehicle inspection drives, they said.
Police personnel, assisted by central armed police forces, conducted identity checks and random searches throughout the day to ensure the safety of visitors and locals.
"The measures are preventive in nature to maintain peace and avert any untoward incident, especially with tourist footfall on the rise," a senior official told.
The April 22 attack last year had sent shockwaves across the country, raising serious concerns over the security of tourists in the Kashmir valley.
Local authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious activity.
Officials said the first anniversary serves as a grim reminder of the tragedy, and the security build-up is also aimed at honouring the memory of those killed. (KNS)
