‘32,783 casual labourers engaged across J&K’
Srinagar, Apr 04: The government informed the Legislative Assembly that the total estimated cost of Jal Jeevan Mission schemes in J&K stands at Rs 13,344 crore, with Rs 6,406.59 crore released as the central share and Rs 702.17 crore by the UT government.
Replying to a question tabled by MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia, the Jal Shakti Department said funds have been made available for implementation of the mission across the Union Territory.
The government informed the House that scheme-wise physical and financial progress in Chenani constituency has been recorded, with detailed data placed in annexures.
It said details of new and existing water supply schemes, including their functional status and beneficiary coverage, have been compiled separately. Location-wise information on functional and non-functional hand pumps has also been provided.
On manpower, the government informed that 480 daily wagers are working in the Jal Shakti Department in the constituency, while 32,783 casual labourers are engaged across J&K, including 1,872 ITI diploma holders.
The House was informed that a committee has been constituted to examine issues related to the regularisation of casual and seasonal workers. The panel was set up under Government Order No. 384-JK(GAD) of 2025 dated March 19, 2025.
