Srinagar, Apr 11: In a significant development following a report by Rising Kashmir, the Power Development Department (PDD) has taken prompt action to resolve an issue that had stalled construction of a key bridge over Nallah Sukhnag in Beerwah subdivision.

Rising Kashmir had recently highlighted that the bridge project was facing delays due to a high-voltage transmission line passing directly over the construction site, preventing further progress. The project, being executed under a NABARD scheme at an estimated cost of ₹8 crore, is scheduled for completion by March 2028.

Acting on the report, the PDD has now installed transmission line poles along an alternative alignment, enabling the shifting of the existing 3300 kV line. The earlier placement of poles had obstructed construction activity, forcing work to come to a standstill after two of the three pillars were completed.

The bridge holds considerable importance for the area, as it is being constructed to replace the old Bailey bridge damaged during the 2014 floods. Once completed, it will provide a permanent and reliable crossing for residents of Beerwah and adjoining villages.

Local residents have welcomed the intervention. Mohammad Altaf, a resident of the area, expressed gratitude to Rising Kashmir for bringing the issue into the public domain.

“We are thankful to Rising Kashmir newspaper for highlighting this issue. After the report, the Power Development Department took immediate action on the ground. New poles have been installed at a different location, and we are hopeful that the transmission lines will be shifted soon. This will allow the construction work to resume in the coming days,” he said.

Residents from various villages in Beerwah also appreciated the efforts of the PDD and the Jammu and Kashmir administration for addressing the issue within a short span of time. They expressed hope that the project will now proceed smoothly and be completed within the stipulated deadline.
