Family alleged doctors delayed the treatment

Ganderbal, Apr 24: The death of a newborn at a district hospital in Ganderbal has led to allegations of medical negligence, with authorities ordering an inquiry into the incident.

The family of the deceased infant, residents of Gutlibagh area, claimed that the expectant mother had been admitted to the hospital after crossing her due date.

They alleged that despite repeated requests and visible distress, doctors delayed a required surgical procedure, assuring them that both mother and child were stable.

A relative said the medical staff continued medication and postponed the operation until the following day. The family alleged that timely intervention could have prevented the tragedy.

They further claimed that even when there were signs of concern, including lack of movement from the baby, they were reassured by hospital staff that the condition was normal. The newborn was later declared dead, sparking protests and emotional scenes within the hospital .

The Medical Superintendent of the district hospital has taken cognizance of the matter and ordered a formal probe to ascertain the facts. Officials said appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
