Srinagar, May 04: In a decisive crackdown under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, police in Srinagar have demolished an illegal residential structure belonging to a habitual drug peddler in the Palpora Noorbagh area, officials said.
The accused, Mohammad Irfan Sheikh @Iff, son of Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh, a resident of Pamposh Colony, Palpora Noorbagh, is a known narcotics offender involved in multiple NDPS cases, including FIR No. 134/2024 under Sections 8/21, 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Safakadal and FIR No. 48/2025 under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Sangam, a police spokesperson said in a statement.
"Investigation and verification revealed that the structure was raised illegally on land acquired and developed using proceeds generated from narcotics trafficking. The construction was carried out without lawful authority, in clear violation of revenue laws," he said. "It has further surfaced that close associates and family members of the accused are also reportedly involved in multiple NDPS cases across the Valley, indicating a wider network linked to drug peddling activities."
Acting on credible inputs and after due legal process, the demolition was carried out in coordination with concerned authorities, strictly in accordance with law and after completion of all codal formalities, the spokesperson said.
Police said this action sends a clear and unequivocal message: properties created from proceeds of drug trafficking will not be spared, and those involved in the narcotics trade will face strict and visible consequences.
Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and remain committed to dismantling the entire ecosystem of narcotics, including financial and logistical networks. "Citizens have been urged to come forward and support this collective fight to safeguard the youth and society from the menace of drugs," the spokesperson said.
