Srinagar, April 21 : Amid a public transport strike on April 20, concerns were raised about Smart City bus services in Budgam after a video circulated on social media showed a passenger alleging that a bus had deviated from its scheduled route.
In the video posted on Facebook, a woman identifying herself as a resident of Aarath claimed that a Smart City bus operating from Batamaloo to Aarath failed to complete its designated journey. The bus, reportedly among the last services on the route that day, was carrying several passengers who depended on it to reach their destinations.
According to the complainant, the driver and conductor informed passengers mid-journey that the bus would not proceed to Aarath and would instead terminate near Narbal. Passengers were subsequently asked to disembark at Narbal.
She stated that the official Smart City bus mobile application lists the route as extending from Batamaloo to Aarath, raising questions about the discrepancy between the published schedule and the actual service provided.
“We were told the bus would not go to Aarath and were asked to get down at Narbal despite the route being clearly mentioned on the official app,” she said in the video.
The passenger also highlighted the inconvenience caused, particularly to commuters from Aarath who rely on the service for daily travel. She stressed that public transport services must adhere to notified routes and schedules to ensure reliability.
“If the Smart City bus service is meant for the public, passengers should be dropped at the designated stops as per official information,” she added.
She has urged the authorities, including officials of Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) and the local MLA from Budgam, to take cognizance of the issue and ensure accountability.
