Srinagar, Jan 06: The Jammu and Kashmir Transport Department on Tuesday clarified that there has been no increase in transportation fares for passenger vehicles across the Union Territory, urging commuters to pay only the government-approved rates.
An official from the Transport Department told Rising Kashmir that the government has not issued any order revising or enhancing the existing fare structure for passenger vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir.
“There has been no hike in bus or passenger vehicle fares. Drivers and conductors must charge passengers strictly as per the fare list already notified by the government, as no new fare list has been issued,” the official said.
The official further informed that public transport operators from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir have submitted representations to the department seeking an increase in fares. However, he said that any revision will only be implemented after the government issues a formal order, which will also be made public.
“Until such an order is issued, the existing fare rates will remain applicable on the ground,” he added.
The department also advised commuters not to pay any excess amount and to report instances of overcharging. “If any passenger vehicle is found charging fares higher than the approved rates, passengers should immediately contact the concerned transport authorities so that appropriate action can be taken against the violators,” official said.
