NM-J&K Abhiyan: Police arrest 13 drug peddlers, contraband seized across Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 16: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested 13 drug peddlers in multiple operations across the Valley and recovered a significant quantity of contraband substances under the “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan”.

In Anantnag, acting on specific information, a police party from Police Station Srigufwara conducted a raid at the residence of Nisar Ahmad Nadaf of Dachigam Srigufwara and recovered around 2 kilograms of charas-like substance. During naka checking at Shakras, Srigufwara police arrested Adil Ahmad Mochi, son of Mohammad Ramzan, a resident of Badroo, and recovered about 2 kilograms of charas-like substance from his possession.

At Pethnoo Crossing, Srigufwara police apprehended Aqib Ramzan Rather of Chatrasoo and recovered approximately 2 kilograms of charas-like substance. In another operation, a police party from the Police Post General Bus Stand intercepted a passenger auto (JK03Q-4950) at Iqbal Market near Mill Mod. The driver and a passenger, identified as Javeed Ahmad Dandroo of Pandithpora Anchidoora and Majid Akram Malik of New Qazibagh Anantnag, were arrested, and around 12 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession.

In a separate action, a police party from Police Post Sangam apprehended Sabzar Ahmad Rather, son of Habibullah Rather, a resident of Waghama Rather Mohalla, at K.V Pora Marhama. During checking, approximately 7.854 kilograms of charas-like substance was recovered from his bag. Cases have been registered and further investigation is underway.

In Awantipora, a police party from Police Post Toll Plaza, headed by IC PP Toll Plaza SI Ishfaq Ahmad under the supervision of SHO Police Station Awantipora, arrested two drug peddlers identified as Junaid Tariq, son of Tariq Ahmad Khan of Hariparigam, and Mubashir Ahmad Wani, son of Khazar Mohammad Wani of Panjpora. The duo was riding a motorcycle (JK03M-3900), and during search, 1 kilogram and 258 grams of charas-like substance was recovered. The motorcycle used in the offence was also seized.

In another operation, police from Police Station Awantipora apprehended two drug peddlers during naka checking at Nambal Crossing near NH-44. They were identified as Rameez Ahmad Malik, son of Mohammad Maqbool Malik, and Ubaid-ur-Rehman Malik, son of Shakeel Ahmad Malik, both residents of Trehgam Malik Mohalla, Kupwara. During the search, around 12 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession. Cases under relevant sections have been registered and investigation has been initiated.

In Pulwama, a naka party of Police Post Newa, while conducting checking at Zadoora, apprehended Ab Qayoom Bhat, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Zadoora. During the search, 520 grams of poppy straw-like substance and 30 grams of charas powder were recovered.

In another action, a police party from Police Post Rahmoo established a naka at Tujan Telsar crossing and apprehended Umer Ayub Rather, son of Mohammad Ayub Rather of Frasipora Pulwama. During the search, approximately 3 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered. Cases have been registered at Police Station Rajpora and investigation has been taken up.

In Ganderbal, acting on specific input, Police Station Kangan received information that Javed Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rehim Dar of Khanan Kangan, had concealed contraband in a cowshed near his residence. A police team, along with an Executive Magistrate and the concerned Lumberdar, conducted a search following due procedure. During the search, around 580 grams of charas powder was recovered, and the accused was taken into custody. Legal proceedings have been initiated.

Police reiterated their commitment to eliminating drug menace from society and urged the public to share information about drug peddling and related activities. They said strict action will continue against those involved in narcotics trafficking to safeguard youth and ensure a drug-free environment.
