Baramulla, April 6: The People's Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday organized a party convention in Rafiabad, Baramulla, which was attended by party workers, including members of the women and youth wings.
The convention was addressed by district coordinator Altaf Malik, who outlined the party’s stance on recent political developments and mobilized cadre ahead of the district convention scheduled for April 23 at Dak Bungalow Baramulla.
During his address, Malik strongly condemned the remarks made by Sakina Itoo against PDP leader Waheed Parra in the Assembly. He said such language undermines the dignity of democratic institutions and harms the overall political atmosphere.
“Leaders must maintain decorum and uphold the sanctity of the Assembly,” he stated, urging restraint and mutual respect among political representatives.
Malik also took aim at the ruling Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, accusing it of failing to deliver on key electoral promises. He said the party had assured voters of 12 free gas cylinders, 200 units of free electricity, and employment for one lakh youth, but had made little progress since assuming power.
Referring to Omar Abdullah, Malik alleged that the leadership had “forgotten its commitments” soon after forming the government.
He further criticized a recent agreement involving the transfer of two power projects to NHPC Limited, calling the move “shameful” and against the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The PDP leader reiterated that the party would strongly oppose what he termed as “anti-people policies” and would continue to raise its voice both inside and outside the Assembly.
The convention concluded with a call for party unity and preparation for the upcoming district-level gathering later this month.
