Srinagar, Apr 02: The government on Thursday said the Power Development Department (PDD) follows a strict quality control mechanism and maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards substandard work.

In response to a query in the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said requests for the upgradation and capacity enhancement of power transformers are received periodically from various areas.

“Such demands generally arise due to increasing load requirements and the ageing of existing infrastructure,” Abdullah said. "The department conducts regular load surveys to identify overloaded transformers, and capacity enhancement is undertaken in a phased manner under various Centrally Sponsored Schemes and UT CAPEX to minimise frequent breakdowns and ensure reliable power supply."

The CM said the department maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward substandard work. “Although occasional complaints regarding material quality and workmanship are received, the prescribed procedure for testing and ensuring the quality of materials are strictly adhered to,” he added.

The Chief Minister mentioned that the existing divisional workshop at ED- Sumbal is functioning smoothly and is catering to the repair and maintenance of all damaged Distribution Transformers (DTs) in the area. “Further, the infrastructure of the workshop is being strengthened through the construction of a new workshop building at ED- Sumbal. As regards the establishment of a dedicated workshop at Sonawari, the matter shall be examined on technical grounds and feasibility,” he said.
