Eggs at 6.08%, maize at 3.92% in latest estimates
Srinagar, Apr 05: Post-harvest losses in Jammu and Kashmir have been recorded across key agricultural produce, with data indicating losses in apple, eggs and maize at different stages of handling and storage.
According to official data accessed by Rising Kashmir, apples recorded a loss of 9.51 per cent in J&K, while egg losses were estimated at 6.08 per cent and maize at 3.92 per cent.
The figures are part of a crop-wise assessment of post-harvest losses covering stages such as handling, storage, transportation and processing.
The estimates are based on field surveys. The latest assessment draws from a study conducted between 2020 and 2022, covering 54 crops across states based on production levels.
The data does not provide year-wise losses but presents overall estimates for selected crops.
The assessment indicates that losses occur at multiple stages in the supply chain, including post-harvest handling, storage and transportation.
Officials said the estimates are used to assess post-harvest management systems and identify gaps in storage and processing infrastructure.
