Srinagar, 01 May: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President Showkat Mir Friday said that the Omar Abdullah-led government remains firmly committed to implementing the vision of the party’s manifesto with a special focus on ensuring welfare, dignity, and protection for the labour class.
He made these remarks while chairing a function at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha, organised by Party’s trade union convenor Ghulam Muhammad Hamdard as part of the party’s observance of International Labour Day (May Day). The programme witnessed participation from senior party functionaries, trade union leaders and representatives of various organisations.
Addressing the gathering, Showkat Mir said that the party manifesto is not merely a vision document but a solemn commitment to uplift the working class. He emphasized that workers are the backbone of society and play a crucial role in the socio-economic development of the region. He stated that the elected government is taking sustained and concrete measures to strengthen labour welfare, enhance social security, and ensure dignity of labour across both organised and unorganised sectors.
Reaffirming the party’s long-standing commitment to workers’ rights, he said that the National Conference has always stood at the forefront of advocating fair wages, job security, and humane working conditions.
Highlighting key initiatives of the Omar led government, Mir said that a comprehensive roadmap is being formulated to regularize daily-rated, casual, and temporary employees through a high-level committee. He added that the government has committed to filling nearly 30,000 vacancies across departments in a transparent and time-bound manner. He further noted that ₹30.14 crore has been sanctioned for the welfare of construction workers, while over ₹18,000 crore in pending liabilities have been cleared during 2025–26, benefiting employees, contractors, and retired personnel.
Speakers on the occasion paid rich tributes to workers for their immense contributions to nation-building and emphasized the need for effective implementation of labour welfare measures.
