Srinagar, Feb 20: The first Friday (Jumu’ah) of the holy month of Ramadan was observed with profound devotion at the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid, in a statement issued here, said, “Thousands of worshippers, including a large number of women, gathered to offer congregational prayers in an atmosphere of spirituality and reverence.”
Addressing the gathering, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq described Ramadan as a month of spiritual renewal and collective reform. "The historic Jamia Masjid has for centuries symbolised faith, unity, patience, and steadfastness for the people of Kashmir," he said, adding that the sacred month provides an opportunity to reconnect with these enduring values.
Quoting the Qur’anic verse “Indeed, with hardship comes ease” (94:6), Mirwaiz urged people to move away from despair and embrace hope and faith.
He concluded with prayers for acceptance of fasts and supplications, relief for those in distress, stability in the region, and unity among the people during the blessed month of Ramadan.
Mirwaiz announced that on Saturday, he will deliver a sermon at Naqshband Sahib Shrine before Asr prayers on the occasion of Youm-e-Wisal of the beloved daughter of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Khatoon-e-Jannat Hazrat Fatimah (RA).
