Market checking intensified at Gund

Ganderbal, Feb 19: In the holy month of Ramadan, authorities intensified market checking in Gund area of Sub-Division Kangan to ensure quality control and prevent overpricing of essential commodities. The joint inspection was carried out by the Food Safety Department, Revenue officials and Police on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal. During the drive, several establishments were inspected to check hygiene standards, rates of essential items and compliance with food safety norms. Officials said that a fine of Rs 3,000 was imposed on a violator under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS Act), 2006 for non-compliance with prescribed guidelines. Food Safety Officer said the drive was aimed at safeguarding public health during the holy month. “With the beginning of Ramadan, the demand for eatables increases. Our priority is to ensure that people get quality and hygienic food items at reasonable rates,” he said. A Revenue official added that strict action will be taken against hoarders and profiteers. “We are closely monitoring the market situation. Anyone found indulging in overcharging or selling substandard items will face legal consequences,” he warned. Police officials present on the occasion said such drives will continue throughout Ramadan to maintain discipline in the market and ensure smooth conduct of business activities. The local administration has appealed to traders to cooperate with the authorities and adhere to government regulations in the larger public interest.
